Centerfold Lounge

Centerfold Lounge has a reputation for being Detroit’s only rock ‘n roll gentlemen’s club. I’ve also heard it referred to as a blue-collar strip club. This is my go-to place, so it’s what I’ll be writing about first, as I’m most familiar with it.

Located just south of Eight Mile on John R. It’s the perfect destination for those spending time in northern Detroit, or southern Oakland County. If you’re in Ferndale, Oak Park, Hazel Park, Berkley, Royal Oak, etc…this place is just a couple miles away in a Uber/Lyft.

Upon arrival, you may need to tell your driver to ignore the final automated map instructions, it almost always tells the them to go around the block and ignore the clearly obvious entrance to the guarded parking lot. If you drive, you will have to pay ($3 if I recall correctly) for parking. There’s a modest $5 cover charge that is only implemented on Friday & Saturdays.

Inside, you’ll walk down a small hallway featuring covers of vintage Playboy magazines entering the main room, featuring one stage in the center, & a bar stretching the width of the venue to your left. The stage is surrounded by chairs and tables out to the exterior walls as expected. The is a door to a “Game Room” which leads to an outside patio only accessible from within. This mainly seems to be the smoking section, but there is a pool table & dart board if I remember correctly, as well as the location of Grumpy’s Grill. Back inside, there is a staircase leading up to the DJ booth/VIP area opposite of the bar, and an additional spillover VIP area on the main floor, in the corner.

It’s reputation as a rock ‘n roll club can’t be undersold. You do not want to come here if your vibing to the latest mumble rap or mainstream hip-hop tune. You will not hear it. You’re most likely to hear tunes by The Deftones, Nine Inch Nails and Chevelle and this is the perfect place to listen to this music aside from seeing the bands themselves performing live.
